Lycidis species

Lycidis, probably a male. 4 to 5 mm long. Lycidis are normally found hunting among ferns, on leaves, walls and fences.

 

They are easily identifiable by the markings on the body and the black head. They are not the only jumping spider to have the black head but the abdominal markings give a final identification in that case

Below; Another top down view of a Lycidis. When confronted or disturbed these little spiders will often turn to face the disturbance.

 

They have excellent sight and are able to jump quickly and comparably long distances

Below: A huge Lycidis female, they are not always this large in the abdomen
